Special exhibitions, shows and a new restaurant all delight visitors
Since October 2007 a rust-red cube has offered visitors to Universum® Bremen a great deal of variety. The striking building called the SchauBox lies opposite the Science Center and next to the new EntdeckerPark. It includes a central foyer and a spacious restaurant with a sun terrace. The heart of the cube, which has a side length of 35 metres, is, however, the generously-sized special exhibition area and the state-of-the-art events venue.
Broad spectrum of subjects
The first floor of the SchauBox, which covers an area of 700 m2, houses changing special exhibitions on topics such as chocolate, renewable energy or human body. A ceiling height of over 6 metres allows for imaginative and large-scale exhibits that vary according to theme.
Theatre, shows and more
On the same floor visitors can listen in the DenkArena event venue to a range of lectures or readings, or take part in workshops. Particularly interesting are the regular science shows that take place, with experiments relating to such topics as the weather or water. At the beginning of each year the much-loved scientific plays for children are also staged in the DenkArena, attracting a large number of visitors to the Science Center. The venue includes four large wooden seating steps arranged in a semi-circle and covering an area of 152 m2. These in turn are able to accommodate 100 people. With additional seating, for example for lectures, more than 150 people can sit in the DenkArena.
On the ground floor, the new self-service KUBUS restaurant encompasses an area of 250 m2. The restaurant is also open to non-visitors of Universum®, and in fine weather guests are free to make use of the sun terrace overlooking the EntdeckerPark.
The top floor of SchauBox is where the administrative offices of Universum® Bremen are housed, as well as a large workshop for manufacturing exhibits.
