Which colour do you see when you look into the four metres long water column? In a glass, water looks transparent, in the sea or a lake, however, it is coloured. How is that possible? Water has its colour because of filtering. Water molecules absorb part of the light. This effect is very weak: shallow water therefore seems colourless. Only at a depth of a few metres it starts looking bluish.
